Pictures from the Human Rights/Art Workshop

"In Full Color: A Look At Black History Through Art" is an exhibit currently on display at the Texas Visual Arts Association's gallery in downtown Dallas. Recently there was a workshop for area teachers. During the workshop graphic novel artist and professor of cartoon art Keith Douglas gave teachers ideas on incorporating comic art in their lessons:

Human rights themed artwork from SMU students is on display at the exhibit:

Keith took some time to work with some of the younger participants who are interested in art:

Dallas historian Jesse James Arnold (center) spoke to the crowd and gave an historic perspective:

Comic books from Professor William H. Foster's traveling exhibit are a part of the TVAA exhibit:

Modern day slavery survivor Given Kachepa spoke about his experiences to the crowd:

Some of Keith's art from an upcoming graphic novel on slavery is also a part of the exhibit:

The upcoming graphic novel is als0 a part of a contest for students to submit their work to be published as a part of the book. Check out the TVAA website for more details.

Art!...and so forth...

Some local hoodlums dressed as Wario and Waluigi (could they really not find Mario & Luigi costumes? Ugh, artists!) were graffito-tagging some "art" on a wall near my office. Here are some pics of the process:

As you could have easily guessed, it's an advertisement for the Vinyl Thoughts Art Show which is happening on a weekday night for some horrible reason which pretty much guarantees that I will not be able to attend.

Anyway, I dig Super Mario Bros. and just thought it looked cool so I'm sharing it with the world.
